ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Starting after lunch. Transfer from your hotel or Bariloche Airport to the base of Mount Catedral to start the hiking to the Refugio Frey (1650 msnm). The trail goes along native forest ascending up to the glacier cirque valley where the Frey Mountain Hut is located.
DAY 2 – After breakfast you will start to climb from Frey to the Rucaco pass on Catedral Ridge (2050 msnm), where the view of the valleys, mountains and volcanoes that forms the Andes is superb! The trekking continues downhill to Rucaco valley where you will stop for lunch. Then the ascent continues to gain the Brecha Negra pass with a new breath-taking panoramic view and another descent to reach San Martin Mountain Hut (1520 msnm) and Jacob lagoon.
DAY 3 – After breakfast you will hike around the area to visit “Laguna de los Tempanos”, back to the Refugio to have lunch and start the long trail down to the village. Overnight at Bariloche.
DAY 4 – Excursion BARILOCHE HIKING – This excursion goes along the most classic circuit of San Carlos de Bariloche combined with a 3,30 hours hike at Llao-Llao Nature Park. During the tour, the guide will explain the story of Bariloche and it’s surrounding natural environment. We also do the classic stops at Punto Panorámico and San Eduardo’s Church to enjoy views of Llao-Llao Hotel and Mount Tronador. The hike ascend to the Mount Llao-Llao and goes through the impressive Patagonian forest with fantastic views of Lake Escondido, Lake Moreno, Blest and Tristeza branches of Lake Nahuel Huapi and Mounts Lopez and Capilla.
DAY 5 – Today you will be transfer to San Martin de los Andes taking the famous “Road of the 7 lakes” Arriving at the hotel on the afternoon in order to meet the mountain guide and check the gear for the next adventure, the climb of Lanín Volcano.
DAY 6 – Early breakfast and 1 hour drive to the base of the volcano. After completing the registration procedures you will start the slow ascent up to the area of CAMP and Refugio (2400 msnm). Once at the Camp, you will adjust the equipment and practice ice walking and self-arrest techniques.
DAY 7 – WEATHER PERMITING – The climb starts at 3AM. You will leave the hut with head torches walking first over rocks and later hard snow and ice. It is an ascent of 1400m in 5 to 7 hours to reach the Summit at 3776 msnm. Once there the landscape is superb! The descent is as challenging as the ascent. Back at the CAMP you will have lunch and continue hiking down to return to the village. Last overnight at San Martin de los Andes.
DAY 8 – Trasnfer to the Airport.
